How to be Parisian Wherever You Are | Book Review

By Anne Berest, Audrey Diwan, Caroline de Maigret, and Sophie Mas
Ironically, I've read this book after I've traveled to Paris.

I'm going to start off with my rating: 10/10.
I realize that all of the books I have written about have been tens, but they wouldn't be worth writing about if they were anything less. Why waste my time with something that isn't perfect?

I've been very into non-fiction books lately. How-tos (there's got to be a better way to spell that), biographies/memoirs, self help/improvement, etc. It's weird because I've always been strictly a fiction reader. Maybe it's a sign that I'm becoming a grown up? (How terrifying.)

How to be Parisian Wherever You Are is an essential for anyone looking for their own joie de vivre or je ne sais quoi or wanting to channel their inner parisienne.
There are Parisian guides to everything: style, marriage, dating, cooking, parenting, beauty, etc. Some of them aren't the best, but they are definitely, inherently Parisian. & that is what the book promises. Each part of the book is divided under about 10-15 separate headings.
How to be Parisian is so straight forward with its idgaf Parisian attitude. There are no apologies for the details that may be questionable or silly. That's just the way the parisiennes live: unapologetically.

My favorite part of this book is how much I felt understood while reading it. I may not be a parisienne, but I'm pretty sure I think like one. I want to keep myself for myself, but also give it to someone else. I want to look like I'm not trying hard, but I am (I'm trying so hard). It's all a contradiction and that's the beauty in it. It gives off a bit of mystery...

I'm taking this as a sign that I belong in Paris & I'm 110% okay with that.

"Paris is About Life"

Yesterday, Friday 13 November, did not turn out how I, or anyone, expected.
Nothing was turning out the way I planned.
I woke up late. I can't even remember if I turned in my Russian homework. Maintenance for the most recent problem in my slum of an apartment may or may not have come (another story for another day). I couldn't find the present I wanted for one of my best friend's birthday. I didn't make it to brunch. I didn't make it to yoga. Target ran out of One Direction's (last) album.
Everything was going wrong in my life.

Then I got a text from my dad.
He was asking if I had heard about "what happened in Paris."
Did I? What happened?
When I was looking for another Target I had seen some news article about Paris, but I didn't really look. I was too concerned with One Direction (as I am all too often). When I got into my car, ready to give up on 1D and go home, I looked at the news.
Because what happened in Paris?

Then I saw it.
& I read everything in my car in the Target parking lot.
& I cried.
& I watched French news for HOURS trying to understand.
& I'm still wondering "WHY?!"

It was probably a coincidence that the discussion in my classes yesterday was focused on terrorism and our reaction to it. It was hard to talk about all day, but it's something that needs to be talked about. However, the conversations that happen in a classroom at a university are very different from those that are online or in the homes of average people. The 'terrorism' conversation that happened in my classes did not blame an entire religion or threaten anyone, it was simply a discussion. That's not what I find even when my own family discusses it.
Everyone has been so hurt and so many lives have been lost that I can understand why everyone is so angry. I am angry.
But when do we start to realize that our anger and our hatred towards an entire religion for what an incredibly infinitesimal group of them believes is only sparking more violence.
There is a fight against extremists because at this point it seems as if we can only beat them with a fight. It seems we must fight their violence with violence.
But keep in mind: not everyone is an extremist.

Throughout the night social media was overflowing with posts about the sadness for this city, nation, and people. I even added my own. & while I was writing my instagram caption and editing my tweet I couldn't help but think of how ridiculous it all was. People had died and others were being held hostage and I was on instagram?!
But I'm in Columbus, OH. What can I do to help people in Paris?
I can instagram about it. & I can tweet about it. & I can inform everyone I know of these atrocities and send out my support for all of my friends in France. Maybe social media is the best I can do, at least right now.

It pains me to think of all of the lives lost yesterday and throughout all of history in the names of religions that were founded on acceptance and love of all people.
History has never been lacking when it comes to violence and death, but wouldn't it be great if the future was?

Paris, je t'aime.
Just a note:
France, and the world, is in a fragile place right now. We are all in a state of mourning, even if we didn't know any of the victims. Be kind & thoughtful.

Dinner at Bareburger

My brilliant friend Muyao and I love to try new restaurants and foods in Columbus & she looooves to photograph it. Yesterday we went to Bareburger for dinner and OMG my life is now changed for good, for the better.
Everything about the restaurant was absolutely perfect: the atmosphere, the staff, THE FOOD.
The food is all organic & non-GMO & all of the other things that you want (& none of what you don't want aka chemicals).
This is where everything you want in life comes together to create the perfect experience. If you're in Columbus (& I think New York too) get your butt down to Bareburger. Your stomach will thank you.
El Matador
I sandwich mountain had a bison patty, queso fresco (*cheese & heart eyes emojis*), guacamole, pico de gallo, some lettuce (a green leaf?), & probably more delectable amazingness.
This is my burger soul mate.
The Supreme
& now we meet Muyao's sandwich mountain. This has everything you could ever associate with burgers and America on it: fries, onion rings, bacon, cheese, beef, etc. OMG.

Also going to mention the fries & onion rings because they are also *heart eyes.*

Basically: Bareburger is a 15/10 & I will be back in the very near future.

Tyler Oakley & Binge | Book Review

Binge by Tyler Oakley came out on Tuesday. I bought it on Thursday when he happened to be doing a signing/picture thing/meet & greet at the OSU bookstore. I had to work that day when wristbands were being given out, I didn't think I'd get to see him, hear his laugh irl, or thank him for creating what I live for: his witch's rap video. #iconic

Well.... this happened.
Enough black & white? Never.
You know something or someone was looking out for me because after work there were still wristbands left. YAS.

I finished reading Binge today & Tyler, thank you for sharing your world with all of us.
I have been following your adventures for a long time and there are so many surprises in Binge
Tyler indulges us with so many stories from his life, some he brought his people along for & others that we are just finding out about now. I felt for him during the retellings of life in the Midwest; it was all too relatable. I couldn't control my cackling when I read the chapters "Crash Course" & "If You Can't Beet 'Em."
& at times there were tears, many of them, because someone who always seems to light up the world with his online presence isn't always smiling. I know that Tyler is human, but it hurts me to know how bad he hurt. Read Binge and you'll understand.
Main lesson learned: we're all only human & FULL of flaws, but flaws are cool.

Thanks, @tyleroakley. Binge = 10/10, definitely recommend

The Global Goals

PS washable markers... not very washable
Today is International Day of Peace.
I don't think there's a more perfect day to talk about the Global Goals and the goal that I care about (although all of them are so important for sustainable development and changing the world for the better, what a lofty goal).

First, what are the Global Goals?
On September 25 (that's this Friday!) world leaders from 193 countries will commit to complete 17 goals in 15 years. Their ultimate goal is to accomplish 3 things:
1. End extreme poverty
2. Fight inequality and injustice
3. Fix climate change
This seems impossible, and in 2000 world leaders made a similar commitment, The Millennium Development Goals, and not all of the goals were met. A lot of the new goals are the same. To me, this just means that we need to work even harder to make sure our leaders and everyone is held accountable and works hard.

My goal is #16: Peace & Justice
ALL of the Global Goals are important, but I think #16 is the foundation that we need. Without the right institutions how can we even imagine solving other problems? Strong institutions, foundations, will support the rest of the goals.

Pick your goal and share it with every human you've ever come in contact with.
Post it on facebook, youtube, instagram, twitter, tumblr. Everywhere.
Make the goals famous.
(use #GlobalGoals)

1989 World Tour!

Guys.
Last night was the greatest night of my life.
How can anything else compete?!
I got to see my favorite person sing my favorite songs and there were 14,999 other people there also having the greatest night of their lives.
IT WAS AMAZING
Look at that Columbus native on the big screen playing instruments for Tay. I aspire to be you, sir.
I'm pretty sure if you talk to me or even see me for more than 2 seconds you will know that Taylor Swift is my favorite human on this earth. It's the truth. I'm not ashamed. I'm sitting here admiring my 1989 phone case as we speak (write? read?).
I know that not everyone feels that way and it's okay to be wrong sometimes. You'll come around. Everyone does (looking at you people who jumped on the bandwagon after this ICONIC album).
Loving him was RED & we were all RED. DEAD.
Anyway, on to what is important.
TAY CAME TO COLUMBUS.
This is the third time I have seen her in this same arena (RIP Speak Now tour that I missed *sobs*) and I am in love with every second of all three shows.
Her tours are the only time that I LOVE surprises.
I didn't look up anything about the show; I unfollowed all of the Taylor tumblrs (except hers, duh); I ignored all of the buzzfeed articles, no matter how enticing; I refused to listen to Emily when she tried to tell me spoilers. There is NOTHING like the anticipation of what is happening next at Taylor's shows because I know that I will never be disappointed.
However, I did know one thing, the only spoiler I let Emily tell me:
SHE PLAYS ENCHANTED!!!
Listen, Enchanted is my all time favorite song. It has changed my life, honestly. #tb to above where I say that I missed the Speak Now tour. That means that I have never heard Enchanted live and it's all I've ever wanted. During the RED tour I tweeted and tweeted and tweeted Taylor to play it in Columbus, but alas she played it the night before in Louisville *insert tears*.
But my time has come!
I had been looking forward to the Wildest Dreams/Enchanted mashup since the tour started. I actually cried (more like sobbed) every time she sang Enchanted. Yes girl, last night was sparkling and I will not let it go.
I'll see you again, Tay.
If you are going to the 1989 World Tour, be prepared. The light up bracelets are the greatest. You will be dancing, it'll happen even if you don't want it to. You must know all of the words to every Taylor Swift song ever. Everyone else will know them and you never know what song she will play. Then, when you know all of the words and you are screaming along just know that you will hurt the next day, but you won't regret a second. Even if you think you know what's going to happen, you don't.

Here's what I wore to see the queen:
(I cannot count on my fingers and toes how many times people told me/commented like I couldn't hear that I look like her. I know. Thank you. It's not on purpose, but it works.)

Casual pole coming out of my head there...
Hat: H&M
Sunglasses: Topshop (similar)
Top: Pitaya
Jacket: Forever 21
Skirt: H&M
Boots: Plato's Closet

I STILL HAVE NO CHILL

All the Bright Places | Review

I'm going to stop you now with a spoiler alert!
If you read any further you will find out what happens in this aaaah-mazing book and while I want you to continue reading this blog, go read the book first. Trust me.
"People rarely bring flowers to a suicide."
There isn't a better day to share my love for this book than World Suicide Prevention Day (that's today, September 10th).
I don't know any statistics about suicide and I'm not going to make any up to make it sound horrific because it's already pretty clear that it is a terrible thing. It breaks my heart to know that some people feel that the only way for them to escape their hardships is with death. Why have we let things get this far?

"The problem with people is they forget that most of the time it's the small things that count."
All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven is by far the best book I have read in a really long time. So good, in fact, that I read it in one day. I haven't done that since the last Harry Potter book.
As you can probably imagine by now, this book is largely about suicide and the stigmas surrounding grief and mental disorders.
It's the story of Finch and Violet, two high school seniors in Indiana (shoutout to the Midwest!). They meet at the top of their school's bell tower and their lives are never the same again. Their lives become permanently entwined and they change each other, at least a little bit. Finch helps Violet become a bit of who she was before and a bit of a new, better Violet too. Violet gives Finch something to live for, if only for a little while.
At the end, I knew what was going to happen. I think I knew the ending the entire time I was reading, but it's one of those things that I refused to believe. Even chapters after I wasn't sure it was real. Even as all of the tears fell (honestly all of them, have approx 12 tissue boxes ready).
It's a story of growing up, love, adventure, trust, loss, and heartbreak.
It is a rollercoaster of emotions.

"The future is uncertain, but that can be a good thing."
It's okay to feel sad and terrible and hopeless, but you aren't alone.
If you're in the United States the suicide hotline number is 1(800)273-8255.
If you need help or you know someone who needs help, please speak up.

& Jennifer Niven, thank you for this masterpiece.

"Let me ask you something. Do you think there's such a thing as a perfect day?"

Body Love at FMMF

This weekend I had the amazing opportunity to be a part of the first ever Body Love fashion show at Fashion Meets Music Festival in Columbus. It was created by Lindsey Smith and all of the clothes are from Mod Cloth. The theme of this show, as you may be able to tell from the title, is all about loving your body the way it is, embracing it, and showing it off, flaws and all.
(advanced apologies for the terrible quality of these photos, I'll attempt to get clearer ones asap)

I am OBSESSED with this jumpsuit. 10/10
It was a glamorous night, paparazzi and all 😂
The message in this show is so inspiring and important, especially in the fashion industry and at a time where everyone is constantly judged on their appearance and their is so much pressure to meet a certain image of "perfection."
All of the other models had amazing stories and views on their bodies. It was great to be able to get to know and connect with all of them based on this common ground of acceptance and positivity.

Wildest Dreams | music video

First... FINALLY!
It's been a long wait for this music video, since October last year when the album came out.
Wildest Dreams is the BEST.
Taylor Swift, you've out done yourself, if that's even possible.
The wait for the video and watching it, it was all a rollercoaster of emotions and thoughts.
Tay is the queen of suspense.

"Girl, you are flawless." - me to that giraffe (& Tay)
The rollercoaster of thoughts and emotions explained in the order they happened:
1. #teambasiccable waiting for the video, constantly refreshing tumblr because they'll know everything first.
2.. Why did everyone say this video was coming out at 8pm and it is 8:45 and the whole world is still waiting?!
3. Of course it premieres at 8:57... *insert unimpressed emoji*
4. I'm not ready. This is going to be too good.
5. OMG THERE IS A GIRAFFE
6. Is that Nars Dragon Girl you are wearing?
7. The brunette wig has improved from You Belong With Me.
8. Scott Eastwood *heart eyes for days*
9. I suddenly need a yellow ball gown to flow in the wind behind me and my giraffe.
10. That second verse though. #flawless
11. She probably picked Scott for this video so she could shamelessly make out with him. Clever.
12. #tbt to cray Tay in Blank Space.
13. We are halfway through the song and I still don't understand... is it all a dream or?
14. There's no way her hair is that tame in that plane.
15. That dress again! I'm in love.
16. She is too close to that lion (while casually showing off her flawless legs).
17. #randomweathermontage
18. Hindsight is 20/20.
19. Were we always on a movie set and not in Africa?
20. HE HAS A WIFE! #scandalous & #awk
21. Like did she not know that he was married? C'mon, girl.
22. Goodbye Scott Eastwood.
23. I think I like the fan made remake of Style video better for this song... unpopular opinion?

What a night.

Countdown to when I get to see Taylor live: 17 days!
Is this real?!

A Night in with One Direction

Quick life update: This post is awkwardly a week after the event because 1. I've been moving/attempting to get my life together and 2. I haven't had wifi and my computer in the same place for a week. It's been rough.
So, here's what it was like to have One Direction grace a stage in one of your favorite places and realize that it's the beginning of the end mere days before what is essentially the end is officially announced (called it).

This was the third time I've seen 1D in concert, all at different venues and very different crowd sizes. The only thing that was the same was that I bought my ticket aaaaaages in advance, like over a year sometimes (I am so dedicated). I've seen them in sold out arenas and stadiums and not so sold out stadiums, as a band of five and now a band of four, as teeny boppers and now kind of more grown up. The past five years have been a roller coaster.
I'm usually told that I'm 'too old' to like 1D or something equally absurd, but the truth is: all of them are older than me (if only by a few months, hey Harry ;)) However, most of their fanbase is weirdly young considering what they sing about (usually sex). They just get away with it because it's not explicit (until the concerts WOW) and it is pretty vague unless you're older and understand the underlying message. Mix that with how absolutely amazing they all look and sound and it's a recipe for success.

At least it was until recently. 2015 has really tested 1D. They've lost a member and had a whole slew of other scandals (some confirmed, others we're still a bit unsure of, most rumors). Maybe their antics just aren't enough to support their boyband image anymore? While some parents are dishing out money for floor seats for 6 year olds, others probably aren't into the scandals and scandalous material (I'm not opposed to it though, something interesting has to happen on twitter, right?).

I always thought 1D was at least a bit respectful of how young their audience is, until this tour. WOW.
There was so much that was not tiny children age appropriate and I LOVED it! I'm hoping they've realized that their real success is in the broke, kind of grown up, college student. We're allowed to curse and be crude, but we also can't afford concert tickets that are hundreds of dollars, all because our parents aren't around.

Here's why 1D is so grown up:
prepare yourself

1. Ohmygod, ohmygod you guys: there were curse words.
It's only been a matter of time until the places were curse words were actually the word instead of a not so vague sound. Midnight Memories really showed that Niall is actually the one with the dirty mouth.

2. There was so much emphasis on their... nether regions?
Like so much.
Niall basically stroked himself during Better Than Words and it was the focal point of the big screen (ty camera man) and so many thrusts. Pretty sure it's their signature "dance" move at this point. & again all of it was the focus of the big screen.

3. They are so over What Makes You Beautiful.
At this point everyone in the world knows the lyrics, so why should they have to sing it when the crowd can for them? Answer: they don't. The crowd does sing for them.

4. They just look so grown up and different from the tiny children they were 5 years ago.
Exhibit A: Harry's luscious locks. They've always been luscious, but now they're a mature luscious.
(I don't know what I'm saying either, they're just great, 10/10)
See for yourself:
To whoever (whomever?) made the black & white decision: you did good.
Niall has grown up.
Does the "hiatus" mean that Harry is more approachable now? (Yes.)
If you don't already have tickets for any of their shows that are left, you can probably get them (or did the hiatus announcement suddenly spike sales again?). Do it. It's a good show, you won't regret it (especially if you can get $15 groupons).
If you do get tickets, or already have them, don't forget to check the twitter hashtags for your show. People plan cute things for each one (that time I should have worn blue to Detroit or brought a paper heart to Columbus) and you feel really awkward/a bit dumb for missing out.

& to all of my fellow directioners: I understand. :'(

- Jess

Side note: if anyone who happens to read this and also performs in Columbus, learn the correct OH-IO thing and how to do it. It's very simple. You scream OH, everyone will respond with IO. Harry didn't get it and it was very awkward and just a weird screaming moment. I don't want the same for you. You're welcome in advance.

Into The Wilds

This week my family and I visited The Wilds.
The Wilds is a private, non-profit conservation center near(ish) Columbus, OH dedicated to preserving species of animals and the environment as a whole. They know how important everything on our planet is and they want to educate visitors on what amazing things are out there and a bit about how we can help in conservation as well.

Can you spot the zebras?
The last time I visited The Wilds was when I was younger, but I've been wanting to come back for a while. I wasn't too sure that I would have as much fun as I used to, but I was wrong. This is such a great place and it made me a bit nostalgic about the fun times we all had here as kids. (Remember that time the bison blocked the road?)
There are so many cool species of animals that live in this conservation area. Some are endangered,  some are threatened, and some are just hanging out. The animals seem to really love it here and they love the attention.
Here's what happened when the paparazzi showed up:

The onagers were unimpressed.

The catfish pretended they're never fed.

The giraffes posed like the perfect modeling creatures they are.

*heart eyes*

The ostriches won the award for 'Most Aggressive.'

The rhinos couldn't have cared less.

The camels prepared for their close-ups.
It was an eventful day, to say the least.

If you want to see it in moving picture form (aka video... why am I a grandma) you can check out my dad's youtube video here
There may or may not be embarrassing footage of me (in this video and on this channel (please don't look at his other videos)), but I will admit I haven't watched the whole thing, so I don't know for sure.

I'm impressed that I managed to take (read: crop) so many photos without poo. Woo!
You're welcome.

Go Set a Watchman | Review

(Not so) quick ramble (you've been forewarned):

Last night I finished reading Harper Lee's second novel, Go Set a Watchman.
In high school To Kill a Mockingbird was my favorite book, so I was excited and very nervous when hearing about this new addition to the lives of the Finches. This was especially so after more information surfaced concerning how/why it was getting published and Atticus's character. I wanted to read it, but I wasn't sure if I should. I didn't want to taint the love I had for the first novel if everything about Go Set a Watchman was true.
There were many a bad review, maybe even more than there were good reviews, but I read it anyway.
And you know what? I don't regret it.
I don't think it took anything away from the Finches. It made them human and relatable. Atticus is no longer this God-like, mistake free character, but a real human, in readers' and Scout's eyes.

To Kill a Mockingbird taught us about tolerance, acceptance, and justice.
Go Set a Watchman taught us even more about acceptance, that no one is perfect, and how to think for ourselves.
I appreciate that Atticus has flaws now; he's a real man now.
While I don't 100% agree with or understand Atticus (but who really understands men?) I don't think it's a tragedy or a disgrace for him to not be agreeable for once. He was always so perfect that maybe he was too perfect and that's why everyone loved him; he wasn't real.

You may not understand what I mean without reading the novel (or even after you've read it), but that's okay. I've read a lot of other reviews (by far more prestigious people than me) that haven't agreed with me and I assume they've read the novel as well.

I will say though that the one thing I can't look past in the bad reviews is that they expect it to be better if you read it out of the context of To Kill a Mockingbird. I agree about 0% with this. For a second let's disregard the actual order that the manuscripts were written in (opposite of the order they were published). They are meant to tied together. They have the same characters and there are flashbacks to the first novel; it's impossible to not compare them. I think the hard part is just accepting that there are character flaws now, not that one story is inferior or things don't line up.
It's also possible that I appreciate this story because I relate to Scout so much in Go Set a Watchman. We are in very similar places in life: our pasts and presents don't go together very nicely and they're difficult to reconcile. Maybe that's where my appreciation comes from.

Anyway, more of the ramble is this:
If we give this novel a chance, it could be just as great.
So... give it a read (with an open mind)?

- Jess

P.S. Bravo if you got to the end. I applaud you. & I apologize for my ramble.

Petite spoiler:
& RIP Jem :'(

What I Learned While Studying Abroad

I was abroad for 8 weeks (!!!) and so much happened, more than I could ever write about. There were good, bad, scary, and fun moments. I learned A LOT too, not just because I was taking classes, but because it was the first time I was ever in another country and I had to figure most of it out all by myself. So, for all of you who are thinking about traveling abroad, here are some important lessons that I learned:

1. You will get lost.
You will get lost A LOT, but that's okay. You'll find your way back and maps will be your best friend. Locals will also be very helpful, so don't be afraid to ask. Eventually, you'll know where you're going and maybe someone will ask you for directions. When you can answer them you'll feel like you've conquered the world (& you have, at least a new, little part of it).

2. It will be different & awkward.
"What will be awkward?" you ask. Everything. You're in a foreign place where they do some things, if not most things, differently than you are used to. Sometimes it's just inconvenient and other times (usually when interacting with other people) it is just so awkward (this is potentially just in my case, as I am hopelessly awkward). You'll learn from this too (traveling is always a learning experience) and you'll know how to avoid these situations in the future (hopefully).

3. Trying new things is always good, even when it's not.
Try all of the new things you possibly can. Even if you don't like it, you won't regret trying it. At least now you know that you don't like it. Go ahead, get those mushy peas with your chips, order the snails, and don't be afraid of the shrimp that still has legs and eyes.

4. You will be amazed.
I had wanted to go to Europe for as long as I can remember, so when it finally happened I wasn't sure everything could live up to my expectations. I was so wrong. No matter how much I had built something up in my head it was always 10x more beautiful and breathtaking in person when I could touch it and see it outside of a picture. Everything is different (better, in my opinion) in real life.

5. You will get homesick.
Going somewhere new without your family or your friends is pretty much guaranteed to make you homesick at least a little bit. There are so many new things to process at the same time and you will miss all of the familiar. Good thing it's 2015 and we have the internet. It's so easy to keep in contact with people while you're away with skype, facetime, facebook, and free texting apps.

6. You won't want to leave.
Even though you'll get homesick, when it comes time to return home, you won't want to leave. You will fall in love with wherever you are and so many of the people you're with. When you get back you will miss so much (good and bad) about where you studied. Maybe you'll just have to go back soon. :)

Don't miss out on studying abroad while you're in university. There are probably so many reasons why you think you can't do it, but, trust me, you can. It may take a lot of work to make it possible, but it's not impossible. Talk to your school and see what they can do to help and what you need to do. You won't regret it.

European Adventures | Le Musée du Louvre

The inside of the Louvre is just as awe inspiring as the outside. It is full of masterpieces by artists from all parts of the world, time periods, and walks of life. It's not something to be overlooked on a trip to Paris (especially since it's free for students in the EU).
My favorite pieces were the statues. I can't imagine making a rock go from a rock to something so human. There is so much detail and life in all of the statues and they have survived centuries. It's just... wow.
Winged Victory of Samothrace - by Pythokritos of Lindos
The Dying Slave - by Michelangelo
Psyche Revived by Cupid's Kiss - by Antonio Canova
Melpomene - artist unknown

The Great Sphinx of Tanis

Paris was my last stop on my European adventure this summer, so this is my last post of cool, not American things. Thanks for coming on this adventure and living my dreams with me.
This experience has been life changing (& scary, amazing, and unbelievable).

I wouldn't trade it for the world, especially since it gave me more of the world.

European Adventures | Versailles: Le Château

Even looking back at the pictures I can't believe my eyes. Versailles is GORGEOUS.
Its extravagance and elegance cannot be denied. There isn't a single corner of the palace that isn't filled with intricate detailing. If Versailles doesn't take your breath away, nothing will.
Welcome to my crib...

So many florals (for spring? Groundbreaking.)
"To all the glories of France"
As an American it's so strange for me to think about how old everything in Europe is. There are buildings here built before Europeans even came to the Americas, before the United States was even thought of as it's own country. It's astonishing to think about how young the US is in comparison to Europe.
Then I think about the fact that people actually lived here. Can you believe it? They carried out their (royal) daily lives in this striking palace. It's mind blowing, really. Versailles and all of its history just doesn't seem real, it's like out of a storybook or something.
